What would you do if your home or business experienced an emergency plumbing and valve problem at an inopportune moment, such as during family gatherings, important events, seminars, or business meetings? You start calling every plumber in Toronto, only to be told the same thing: they'll be there tomorrow. You shouldn't wait for a leaking pipe to stop dripping, and you shouldn't wait for it to stop dripping.
Regardless of the situation, The Everest Emergency Team is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Our devoted staff works 24/7/365, whether it's a new plumbing installation, a plumbing emergency, a consultation for a household or commercial facility, or an industrial complex. All of our expert plumbers have passed background checks and use the most up-to-date plumbing technology to provide long-lasting, low-cost plumbing services.
WHAT IS A WATER VALVE?
Hot water, cold water, ground water, potable water, salt water, and/or wastewater are all handled and controlled by water valves. Valves are found in a wide range of everyday machinery and may perform a number of tasks. The valve opens to permit flow and shuts to prevent it.
A valve is a mechanical device that partially or completely blocks a pipe in addition to changing the amount of liquid that passes through it. You open a valve that allows high pressure water to escape from a pipe when you turn on a faucet (tap) to brush your teeth.
VALVES USED IN RESIDENTIAL PLUMBING
Gate valves
Gate valves are one of the most common types of valves used in plumbing. Gate valves regulate water flow by raising or lowering an internal gate, which is controlled by a twist-type implement or knob at the valve's top. Gate valves should never be used to control flow volume; they are only designed to be fully open (allowing full flow) or fully closed (preventing full flow) (stopping the flow entirely)
Ball valve
The most reliable valve type is the ball valve, which is commonly used for main water shutdowns and branch line back-flow prevention and prevents back-flow preventer leak. A ball valve, like a gate valve, is an all-or-nothing valve, meaning it can only be fully open to allow full flow or fully closed to stop all water flow.
Globe valve
In plumbing applications, globe valves are used to control or throttle the flow of water. The bulge in the body of this valve gives it its name, a shape that is not found in other valve types. A globe valve's handle is usually a twist knob.
VALVE INSTALLATION
- Valves can be installed in any orientation, but it is preferable to install them upright, especially in larger sizes, for easier access to the hand wheel.
- Before installing the gate valve, check the material of the seat and disc. Ascertain that no defects have occurred as a result of storage or transportation.
- Complete all welding before installing the valve, and make sure the flange has cooled to room temperature before installing the gate valve with the proper gasket.
- Before installing the pipe, inspect it for welding residue, waste, rust, pickle paste, or other debris. If necessary, wash with water or a mild detergent.
- Make sure the flange is not warped or the gate valve is not misaligned in relation to the flange.
When the valve is not properly aligned with the flange/pipe, this is the most common cause of valve problems. To reduce the load on the piping assembly, support the valve as needed.
Tighten the bolts one at a time, in stages, to ensure uniform pressure and a seal between both the valve, gasket, and flanges.
- Once the installation is complete, test the valve by turning it on and off several times to ensure it has not moved during the process.
PRECAUTIONS
- At pressures greater than the valve's working pressure, it should not be used.
